Louise Miller, Psychotherapist

My areas of expertise are: Family of Origin Issues, Drug and Alcohol Issues, Women's Issues, Chronic and Life-Threatening Illness, Trauma, and Grief/Loss. I have worked for several years in the field of addictions and mental health, with teenagers and adults. I also work with issues of death and dying, and lesbian and gay issues. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I consider it an honor to accompany a client on their journey of exploring, understanding, resolving, and healing.

My Style and Qualifications

My particular psychotherapy style is based on several different and complementary traditions in the therapeutic field--object-relations, Jungian depth psychology, humanistic, and transpersonal traditions. My educational and professional qualifications include being a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPCC) in New Mexico, and I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Taking the First Step

Taking the first step toward getting help is often the most challenging. I've often been asked about readiness for therapy. It's a helpful question and being willing to ask yourself that question shows curiosity on your part.
So, are you ready? Fear comes in at times, of course. Explore what it is about as often as you can, rather than pushing it aside or allowing it to stop you in your tracks. As I see it, and have experienced it, engaging in the therapeutic process takes courage, and the rewards are extensive and profound—to know yourself with less fear.
